Childhood
Henry Ford's childhood helped shape who he was as an adult. Born on July 30th, 1863, by William and Mary Ford, Henry was the oldest of his six siblings. Ford grew up living on a farm with his large family. Many do not realize that Ford was not born into wealth, which is why I personally believe he was one of the few captains of industry who paid his employees well. Ford was homeschooled, and spent a lot of his time in his room learning.
Ford had left his home for the first time when he was sixteen, and headed for Detroit to become an apprentice. It was in Detroit where Ford got his first job as a mechanic, and he had worked as one for three years. When Ford was done with his job, he then moved back to his family in Michigan. It was back at home, where Ford Henry often used his mechanic skills to repair steam engines and complete other work on the farm. I believe it was at this point in his life when he developed knowledge and understanding to become the man he was. He later traveled back to Detroit when he could find work. Dearborn and Detroit are only nine miles apart. Ford's childhood shaped who he became as a successful adult, and a legend of industry.
